Usage
Shows one past action happened before another. Used after before/after/when/until, in reported speech, and for third conditionals.

1. The train had left before we arrived.
2. I had finished before 8 PM.
3. She had never seen snow before visiting Canada.
4. By the time I arrived, they had eaten.

Common Mistakes
Mistake 1: Single past event. WRONG: I had woke up at 7. CORRECT: I woke up at 7.
Mistake 2: Unnecessary use. WRONG: After I had eaten, I went. CORRECT: After I ate, I went.
Mistake 3: With last Monday. WRONG: I had met him last Monday. CORRECT: I met him last Monday.
