Advanced conjunctions add nuance and sophistication to your English.
Concession (showing contrast): although, even though, despite, in spite of, while, whereas, however, nonetheless, regardless.
Time connectives: as soon as, by the time, until, before, after, since, during, throughout, meanwhile, eventually, subsequently.
Reason and result: because, since, as, due to, owing to, as a result, consequently, hence, therefore, thus.
Condition: if, unless, provided that, as long as, in case, suppose, assuming, whether.
Purpose: so that, in order that, for the purpose of, with the aim of.
Although vs Despite: 'Although it rained, we went out.' (clause) 'Despite the rain, we went out.' (noun/gerund)
Whereas vs While: 'Whereas he is tall, she is short.' (formal contrast) 'While I was cooking, she was studying.' (time)

Examples
Concession: Although it rained, we went out. Despite the rain, we went out. Even though she is rich, she is unhappy. He went to work, nevertheless.
Time: As soon as I arrived, she left. By the time I woke up, he had gone. I will wait until you come. Meanwhile, the sun was setting.
Reason: Since you are here, let's start. Due to the storm, the game was cancelled. As a result, we stayed home.
Condition: Unless you study, you will fail. Provided that it doesn't rain, we will play. As long as you try, that's enough.
Purpose: I studied so that I could pass. She works hard in order that she can support her family.
